Discover Fighting Fish Scott’S Addition

Walking into Fighting Fish Scott’S Addition for the first time felt less like trying a new restaurant and more like discovering a neighborhood secret everyone else already loved. Tucked into the creative energy of Scott’s Addition and sitting right at 912 N Arthur Ashe Blvd, Richmond, VA 23230, United States, this spot blends casual comfort with a level of care you can taste in every dish. I stopped by on a busy Friday night, expecting a wait, but the staff handled the crowd with calm confidence, something that immediately builds trust when a place is clearly in demand.

The menu leans into fresh seafood and bold flavors, and you can tell the kitchen respects the ingredients. According to data from the USDA, freshness plays a major role in both flavor and nutritional value, especially with fish, and that commitment shows here. I watched plates come out with vibrant colors and clean presentation, never fussy, just well thought out. One server explained how their seafood sourcing focuses on consistent quality rather than chasing trends, which aligns with recommendations from organizations like the James Beard Foundation that emphasize sustainability and responsible sourcing in modern American dining.

During my visit, I ordered what the staff casually called house favorite, a dish that shows up often in reviews for good reason. The balance of texture and seasoning felt deliberate, not accidental. This isn’t fast food pretending to be something else; it’s approachable dining done right. A nearby table was celebrating a birthday, and I overheard someone describe their meal as worth coming back for, which pretty much sums up the vibe. Real diners, real reactions, no hype needed.

What stands out most is how the restaurant fits into the broader Scott’s Addition food scene. Richmond has been gaining national attention for its dining culture, with food writers from Bon Appétit and Southern Living frequently highlighting the city’s mix of creativity and comfort. Fighting Fish contributes to that reputation by being consistent. Consistency, according to restaurant industry studies by the National Restaurant Association, is one of the top factors driving repeat visits, and judging by the steady stream of regulars, they’re doing something right.

The atmosphere stays relaxed without feeling careless. Music stays at a level where conversation flows easily, and the seating works whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a longer meal. I noticed the staff checking back just enough to be helpful, not intrusive, a small detail that often separates good restaurants from great ones. Online reviews echo this experience, often mentioning friendly service and reliable food, though some note peak hours can feel crowded, which is fair given the location’s popularity.

From a practical standpoint, the location is easy to spot along Arthur Ashe Boulevard, making it convenient whether you’re local or visiting Richmond for the weekend. Parking can be a bit tight during busy hours, a common challenge in Scott’s Addition, but most guests seem to agree it’s a small trade-off for a solid dining experience. While menus evolve over time, availability can vary slightly depending on seasonal ingredients, something the staff is upfront about, which adds to the sense of transparency and trust.

Overall, the experience feels grounded and honest. There’s no attempt to oversell or overwhelm, just good food, thoughtful service, and a clear understanding of what diners actually want when they sit down to eat in this part of town. Whether you’re exploring Richmond’s dining scene or returning to a place you already enjoy, this restaurant manages to feel familiar and fresh at the same time, which isn’t easy to pull off consistently in a competitive food neighborhood like Scott’s Addition.

  • We ordered the lunch combo twice (Nigiri Lovers) which is probably the best Suschi deal in all of Richmond! It comes with either soup or seaweed salad (+$3). The fish was fresh and of high quality, we can highly recommend the salmon/avocado rolls and the shrimp rolls. The service was also very friendly!

  • Do the pictures not say enough? Beautiful presentation and with such short notice. Staff were so friendly, helpful, and communicative. They made this amazing sushi “cake” for a friend of mine and blew us away both visually and in taste! It was so delicious. I’m a big fan of their sushi burritos but this is what sold me for sure!

  • This is the place I recommend to everyone looking for good Japanese fish cuisine. Many other establishments have gone downhill in quality, and it's a stark difference from the careful attention Fighting Fish puts towards their food. It's sad to say how many other places neglect freshness. I don't want to mention how many times I've been let down by inedible meals in Richmond, so this is a beacon of light. All the fish is extremely fresh and professionally prepared and selected. All the produce is in peak condition - if you've ever been let down by hard mango bits or bruised avocados, you're in luck. And the service has always been excellent. I've had the Poke Bowl, warm sake, Chirashi, seared tuna appetizer, and sushi burrito all of which I highly recommend. I will absolutely go again and keep hyping everyone up about it hoping that it stays as good as it is today. Thank you for showing everyone how it's done!!

  • Have heard people say that fighting fish is expensive. And after going there to try it for myself, I have to disagree! See, the thing is, they give you such an over abundance of food. So for what you are being given, that price point is spot on. Would recommend splitting dishes!! Everything was so freaking delicious omg. We got the combo lunch specials and the fish tower. And I just have to say, never in my life have I had such a big, thoughtfully put together, and yummy ginger salad before. The fish was super fresh and tasty! And the staff were very friendly and helpful.

  • Quality of fish was fresh, I think lol. I was surprised that the yellowtail roll was dark and a diced consistency rather than a light colored and a solid piece, but that may just be my preference/experience. I was expecting a brighter/cleaner flavor but it tasted pretty fatty. I wish they had a shrimp tempura roll that isn’t spicy (besides the cowboy one). The flavor of the Tiger Tempura roll is great, I just prefer for the wasabi to be the spice in my sushi. I’ll be back to try again, no doubt. Great spot, the atmosphere was nice.

  • Our food was delicious! We had The Fighting Fish tower and the monster roll. The sushi had a fresh taste. They took a little long to get our food out but other than that, definitely recommend it.
